WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

What inspires you?

If you don’t know the ANSWER to that question, you haven’t thought long enough. We all have things that motivate us, things that drive us to be better, to go further, to get more.

A couple of months ago, I embarked on a personal journey.  I wanted a leaner, toned physique and I knew what I had to do. I was already exercising daily, but taking it to the next level would require work, lots of it.

I knew my weaknesses:

  • My diet wasn’t clean enough
  • My strength training wasn’t hard enough or consistent enough.

And so it was time to tackle both.
I needed a source of inspiration, so I decided  to enter a fitness competition. No, the idea of standing on stage in a bikini and heels didn’t exactly appeal to me, but knowing that I would have to, was all the motivation I needed to stick to the plan. Below, I share my journey with you, and challenge you to find something that inspires you to stick to the plan, and achieve your goals. Maybe you just went through a bad break-up, or perhaps you simply don’t like the way you look in a recent picture…whatever it is, channel the energy into something positive and make that change.

My daughter snapped this picture from the audience and
sent it to me. I spotted it in my inbox right after the show.

MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS: I DID IT.
MY SECOND THOUGHT WAS: I NEED A CUPCAKE

  1. hi christine,

first i want to say you have been inspiration to me. your transformation has been truly impressive.

me, i'm a 41 years old man. i'm beginning to get in some of the best shape of my life. i'm 6' 0" and about 180lbs. about 2 months ago i was around 200 and thought i was in pretty good shape because i've always lifted weights. but i have always had some small love handles that i wanted to get rid of. after eating much cleaner (and less food) and adding a strict 25 minutes each day cardio HIIT session to my lifting routine, i can say i'm down to around 13% body fat and falling.

my goal is to get into the single digits in body fat. it's gonna take an even more strict diet i'm sure, but i'm determined to get there.

anyway, some of the techniques i use is intermittent fasting, and training (cardio) while in the fasted period. i would love to know what it was that took you from looking great to looking stage-ready. did you count every calorie? how strict were you with your macro-nutrient percentages (protein, carbs, fats)? i haven't really done it to the gram yet - more general guesses.

i think what has made the difference for me recently was a combination of things... reducing carb intake, nearly elminating sugars, nearly eliminating starchy carbs like flour-based things, very few processed foods, and really probably more than anything is paying attention to calories in vs. calories out.

but again, i'd love to know what you're aha moments were and what you're doing to get/keep that physique.

anyway, have a great one, thanks for reading, and keep going strong!

    1. Hi Michael,
Thanks so much for your kind words.
You will love Shula's Athletic Club. I used to teach a fitness class there. Since then, they have remodeled their strength training area, and their cardio theater is great as well. They also have extremely competent trainers. You mentioned you set a 4 month goal...that is plenty of time to see great results. Don't forget to take a before picture so at the end of the 16 weeks, you can truly appreciate your progress.
Keep at it. I'm sure you'll do great. Keep me posted.
